The fire station in Friolzheim is an excellent example of modern and sustainable architecture, where both functionality and aesthetics are at the forefront. Particularly striking are the four fully glazed folding doors of the ALPGATE type, each measuring 4 x 4.2 meters. These doors stand out with their clean and modern look, emphasizing the contemporary design of the building. One of the doors was additionally equipped with a threshold-free pedestrian door, providing barrier-free access.
The fully glazed doors allow plenty of natural light to enter the vehicle hall, significantly improving the working conditions for the firefighters. At the same time, they create an open and transparent exterior appearance, which reinforces the building’s sustainable overall concept. This sustainability is further enhanced by the large solar system on the roof.
Combined with the new room layout and expanded space – especially for the new TLF 4000 tanker fire engine – the Friolzheim fire station now offers optimal conditions for operations. The glass extension, which connects various parts of the building, such as the renovated town hall and the new multi-purpose building, gives the entire architectural ensemble a modern and forward-looking appearance.
One advantage of ALPGATE folding doors for fire brigades is the small amount of space they take up when open. Depending on the motorised version, the doors can also be completely folded up within a very short time. This is almost completely silent, as the folding doors move on a carriage with ball-bearing rollers. Manual opening is also possible at any time.
