ALPGATE manufactures two special circular sliding gates supporting the top for the König Laurin 2 mountain station in the Karersee ski area. The mountain station planned by the well-known architect Werner Tscholl was built underground and is therefore literally “invisible” hidden in the mountain. Tscholl was named Italy’s Architect of the Year in 2016 and is responsible for the implementation of a wide range of avant-garde building projects. The ALPGATE team is happy to be part of this project with two custom gate designs. The assembly alone in the Dolomites at an altitude of over 2300m was impressive.
The overhead circular sliding doors with the dimensions 6050mm x 4125mm (WxH) were filled with sandwich sheet metal panels and coated on both sides in RAL9005 matt. In the passage area of the cable car, the gate rails were interrupted over a width of approx. 1250mm. The two gate systems were also designed with a self-regulating trace heating system in order to guarantee smooth operation even in extreme weather conditions. The 1,807m long cable car takes passengers comfortably and weatherproof directly up to the rocks of the rose garden to the Kölner Hütte at 2,337m via a middle station.
